Bearing Gifts

We love the holidays. But, they wouldn’t be the same without traveling to see family. We usually visit family over Thanksgiving and stay at our house for Christmas, so I have made it my goal for a few years to have all the gifts for my long-distance relatives bought and wrapped by the time we leave at the end of November. This keeps me from having to spend money on shipping costs. It also allows me to take advantage of fall sales and avoid the Christmas rush.

Several of our relatives have caught on to the savings that not shipping can offer them and send us home with presents wrapped for Christmas. The room that the gifts take up in the car on the way to Thanksgiving also makes a nice placeholder for the gifts that we receive. The kids love to arrive back home at the end of November and have a slew of gifts ready to go under the tree.

If you are traveling for Thanksgiving, I encourage you to start thinking about Christmas, as well. Delivering gifts in person saves money, adds a sense of personalization, and checks off an item from your to-do list in an already busy time of the year.
